Hi everyone! We understand that there is some confusion as to what we do and do not accept, so here I am, to lay it out for you!
What is UNIQUE?
Elementary, my dear Watson! Now, let me start off by saying that we are not concerned with your character's life story. Deviantart is an ART website, no matter how unique your character's backstory is, so we are concerned about the ART, the visual aspects. If you answer "no" to the following questions, then hit "ADD TO GALLERY" NOW, because we'd LOVE to see your original and unique OCs! This group is for drawn or photographed pictures, not written stories!
To qualify as being unique, an image/character has to be asked these questions by our staff and the creator:
When I describe this character in my head, does it sound way too much like any character I've seen in any popular media outlets?
Does the character wear clothes that you could see anybody wearing?
Does the character share the same costume as any character from a popular media outlet?
Does the character share the same siloette as any character from a popular media outlet? Example: This otherwise unique character share the same color scheme and pose as Allen Walker. As such, it's not that original any more.
If this character is a FanCharacter, then do they look too much like the main cast?
Is the medium of this image the simplest medium I have in my gallery? (Example, you only have in your gallery line art images and fully-colored images, and you are considering sending us a line art image. If your gallery is like that, then the line art is considered an incomplete image)
WE ACCEPT:
Original Character and Fan Character artwork
Monsters, pets, creatures, robots, and landscape pictures
...But, it has to be unique. We don't want ORDINARY characters here! So, only submit it if you think we've never seen any character design like it before! (refer to What is UNIQUE stuff above)
Visual media! Any kind of it, from anime to realism to cartoony! Except, of coarse, what's listed below.
WE DO NOT ACCEPT:
Incomplete images/WIPS/Rough Sketches.
We don't accept art drawn on lined/graph paper nor images that were drawn in a sketchbook where you can still see the binding. Please crop your images properly.
Undecipherable images. If you have a great OC design but it's hidden in a visually distorting or confusing image, we won't be able to see that it's so unique!
Otherwise unique characters wearing cosplay, wigs, or costumes of characters from the popular media.
Literature
Pure FanArt or any image containing canon characters as the focus of the image. The focus MUST be your OC!
Images with suspected copyright material in them (those with confirmed copyright material will also be reported to help make deviantart a better place!)
Images with uncredited stock or uncredited doll bases.
Fan Characters that do not list what media/series/game/etc they are fan characters for.
Non-Image-Related Rules of Membership
Respect the staff and other members of this group at all times, on their pages and ours.
If the staff denies your image feel free to request suggestions for how to make it more unique and/or ask why it was denied, but ask nicely. Any complaints about a declined image are to be sent to the group's notes, and not discussed with the staff in the correspondence.
Any suggestions for rule changes should be sent via note to the group.
If you believe you see an image that is in the wrong folder please note us with the deviation gallery location, deviation name/artist, and where you think the deviation belongs.
Any suggestions, misplaced deviation messages, or rule suggestion messages are to be sent to us VIA NOTE to the group, NOT commented in the journals or on our front page. Thank you for understanding.
Please don't ask us on the front page if your character will make the cut. If it follows the rules listed above, it will probably make the cut. If it doesn't, then it doesn't. No big deal. Just ask us how you can improve!
If your deviation expires, I'm sorry! It is probably because either staff is busy with IRL obligations, or we couldn't come to a final vote on your deviation or not. Please feel free to ask us in the correspondence comments section to know what's going on, and/or feel free to resubmit it.
If you feel any member from this group has been rude to you...
By rude, I mean leave scathing comments on your accepted deviations such as "this image sucks! It doesn't belong in UniqueOCs because it's unoriginal!" or "you shouldn't have had it accepted to UniqueOCs because anime-style isn't art or original!!". This is being posted due to a user's rudeness that Ryugexu would hope none of you have to experience, but if you do experience it, Ryugexu is glad to help.
Please Note the group with a link to the rude comments so that way the founder(s) can determine whether or not they are members of this group. From there, the founder(s) will either warn the user or request the group leader to make action.
